PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan candidate Halimey Abu Bakar has won the Seri Setia state seat, with a majority of 4,027 voters.
Election Commission's returning officer Datuk Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain, in announcing the results tonight, said Halimey Abu Bakar polled 13,725 votes while his contender from Pas, Dr Halimah Ali bagged 9,698 votes.
Voter turnout was at 44.1 per cent, he said at a press conference held at the Seri Setia main counting centre at Dewan Sivik here.
Halimey, during his 21-day campaigning period had expected a 60 per cent voter turnout.
Mohd Azizi added that out of the 23,423 votes received, 164 have been declared spoilt while 28 were unreturned ballot papers.
Eighteen polling centres with 115 streams were open from 8am to 5.30pm.
The Seri Setia state seat has 53,492 registered voters, comprising 50,692 regular voters and 2,770 early voters who had cast their ballots on Sept 4.
Malays make up 54.02 per cent of the electorate, while 24.34 per cent are Indian and 19.75 per cent are Chinese.
In the 14th General Election on May 9, Prof Dr. Shaharuddin Badaruddin of PKR, obtained 29,250 votes and defeated BN candidate Datuk Yusoff HM Haniff, who obtained 9,878 votes, Pas’ Mohd Ghazali Daud (4,563 votes) and Independent candidate Dr S. Vignes (217 votes).
