KUALA LUMPUR: Members of the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) have returned to their day jobs after 100 days of the Pakatan Harapan government in power.
However, CEP chairman Tun Daim Zainuddin denied that the CEP had been disbanded.
“The prime minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) said the CEP still exists.
“(However for now) they have all gone back to their former jobs,” Daim said when met after speaking before a gathering of Kampung Baru residents at Kelab Sultan Sulaiman here on Tuesday.
Previously, it was reported that the CEP would be disbanded after 100 days of PH takinf over the federal administration.
The council was set up by Dr Mahathir on May 12 with the objective of advising the prime minister on socio-economic and financial matters.
Its members include former Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former president and CEO of Petronas Tan Sri Hassan Merican, billionaire Tan Sri Robert Kuok and prominent economist Dr Jomo Kwame Sundaram.
Last month, Daim had said the CEP had ended and its final meeting was held on Aug 17.
“Our work is done. All the mandates given have been completed. All suggestions will be presented in a report to Dr Mahathir," Daim was quoted as saying.
