Student council decides on type of leadership without university's involvement

KUALA LUMPUR: The Student Representative Council (MPP) at all public universities will be given the full freedom in determining their own leadership mould without the involvement of the university’s administration beginning this year.

The Education Ministry said in a statement today that as such the process and methods of electing the MPP or also known as the Campus Election (PRK) would also be reviewed.

“The PRK Coordination Meeting between the Higher Education Department, Student Affairs Office and the Legal Officers of Public Universities today decided that the methods of implementing the PRK be reviewed to enable the students to handle the election process in a transparent and independent manner.

“MPP will bring about autonomous sentiment with full freedom of expression, to indulge in politics or even in activities without the involvement of the university’s management,” according to the statement.

All public universities are free to implement their respective PRK after making several necessary amendments in line with the initiatives of an independent, fair and open election. — BERNAMA
