Terengganu hopes oil royalty delay is not a ruse

KUALA NERUS: Terengganu will abide with the six-months requirement to fine-tune the payment of oil royalty.

Menteri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said he hoped it was not an attempt to delay the payment that was promised by the Pakatan Harapan government.

“We are not concerned with the duration they need to study and discuss paying the royalty to the oil-producing states, but we want to ensure that our rights are given.

“I appreciate the federal government’s initiative which I take positively and hope it is not an empty promise,” he said at the 64th annual Pas muktamar at the Gong Badak indoor stadium.

He was commenting on the six-month period required by the Cabinet Committee formed to study and discuss payment of the oil royalty with the states concerned.

Economic Affairs MinisterDatuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali had said that the period would allow them to prepare suggestions before a final decision was made before increasing the royalty from five to 20 per cent.
