Pahang house prices to remain

KUANTAN: The price of houses in the state will not be affected with the implementation of the Sales and Services Tax (SST) since earlier this month.

Pahang Real Estate and Housing Developers’Association (Rehda) chairman, Wong Kok Loon said despite the fact that the government has exempted construction services and building material costs from the SST, the taxation would not have any affect on construction costs and house prices.

“This is because the factors related to an increase or reduction in house prices are not solely determined by contruction material costs. This matter involves several other factors including land premium price, location, supply and demand.

“We cannot simply reduce prices, especially when it comes to ongoing housing projects. But the association encourages developers to provide a discount to their clients who want to purchase houses,” said Wong here yesterday.

He said despite an uncertain economic situation, houses and real estate property continued to be sold in Pahang.

“For example, this year’s Pahang leg of the Malaysia Property Expo (MAPEX) held at the East Coast Mall successfully recorded sales of up to RM11 million.

“This proves that the people still want to buy houses and property, be it for themselves or as an investment,” he said.

On the Pahang MAPEX from September 27 to 30, Wong said the property exhibition would help the public, especially the youth in finding suitable homes for themselves.

“The MAPEX is an ideal platform for the people to engage with housing developers, financial institutions and property experts and all of these things come under one roof

“We are looking forward for the public to throng the event as there are many housing and commercial property units which are being offered,” said Wong.
