Chong Wei thanks Malaysians for support

KUALA LUMPUR: Former World No 1 shuttler Lee Chong Wei expressed his gratitude for all the support he has received since news spread that he is suffering from early stage nose cancer.

The three-time Olympic silver medallist, when contacted via text message, thanked all those who have prayed for him to make a full recovery.

Chong Wei, 36, has been receiving treatment in Taiwan since July. It is believed that the 12-time Malaysia Open winner completed his treatment on Friday.

He is expected to return to Malaysia next week.

The shuttler, however, needs to rest for one to two months.

Chong Wei grabbed headlines when he was forced to withdraw from the World Championships in Nanjing, China and Indonesia Asian Games last month due to illness.

BA of Malaysia (BAM) had only earlier today released a statement confirming that Chong Wei had been diagnosed with early stage nose cancer.
