Many factors to be considered before transfer of power is done

ALOR STAR: The country’s economic situation and also security issues along with other factors need to be considered before any transfer of power to a new prime minister is done.

Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah said only then can a smooth change in the country’s leadership take place.

He said the leadership of Pakatan Harapan (PH) was well aware of this and would make a rational decision on he matter when the time comes.

Amiruddin said PH had only realised the actual situation the country was in after taking power in May following the shock defeat suffered by Barisan Nasional in the 14th General Election (GE14).

“It is true we have said before that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will hand over power after two years of becoming the prime minister.

“However, it was only after we captured Putrajaya did we know the actual situation the country was facing...so it is best we let the PH leadership make rational decisions over this matter,” he said.

Amiruddin said this when he was asked to comment on Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi awang’s statement recently that Dr Mahathir should be given the opportunity to continue to administer the country until the end of his five-year term.

However, Amiruddin - who is Kubang Pasu member of parliament, said he believed Dr Mahathir would stick to whatever had been agreed upon by PH over the issue.
