Nor Hisham is new KL mayor

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) president Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan has been appointed as the new mayor of Kuala Lumpur, effective today.

He replaced Tan Sri Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz who stepped down from his post on Sept 30.

Nor Hisham’s appointment as the 12th mayor was consented by Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V in accordance with Part II, Section 4(2) of the Federal Capital Act 1960.

The appointment was announced by Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad in a handover ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut.

Nor Hisham, 62, retired in May last year after serving with Subang Jaya Municipal Council since 2014 and he continued to serve after being offered a one-year contract for his great performance.

Nor Hisham has 37 years of experience in various government agencies such as Gombak District Land Office, Economic Planning Unit, Prime Minister's Department, Ministry of Territories and Selangor State Secretary Office.

Khalid was confident that Nor Hisham would lead DBKL to its glory.

“With his excellent record, he will bring Kuala Lumpur to the next level, in line with DBKL’s mission and vision to make Kuala Lumpur a ‘World Class City’ by 2020,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nor Hisham said he would be open to any suggestion and criticism from city folk to make the capital a ‘World Class City’.

“I welcome any ideas from DBKL officers in terms of administration specifically and also from the city folk generally to develop the city.

“I’m confident that issues such as homeless and foreigners in Pasar Borong Selayang can be tackled with the help of local authorities,” he said. -- Bernama
