Kampung Padang Jawa villagers facing eviction get temporary reprieve

SHAH ALAM: Thirty-four families in Kampung Padang Jawa, Klang who are facing eviction this Thursday will stay in their homes until Dec 31 this year.

The temporary reprieve for the eviction order on Lot 626 and Lot 1416 came following a meeting held on Sept 24, said Batu Tiga assemblyman Rodziah Ismail.

Rodziah, who acted as mediator in the matter, said the agreement was reached in the meeting attended by her, Shah Alam MP Khalid Abdul Samad, lawyers representing the developer and the affected families.

“The 34 families will sign a tenancy agreement with the developer who is also the landowner. The agreement means they can continue to stay in their homes until end of December.

"The lawyer of the 34 families also agreed to redraw their appeal to suspend the demolition that has been filed in court.

“The developer’s lawyers also agreed not to proceed with the demolition on Oct 4,” said Rodziah.

She was speaking in a Press conference today, attended by lawyer, James Ee, who is representing the developer and landowner, Ehsan Bina Sdn Bhd.

Also present was Ehsan Bina Sdn Bhd assistant general manager David Low.

Rodziah also denied claims by the villagers that she was backing Ehsan Bina throughout the process.

“The MP (Khalid) and I have tried our best to solve this matter amicably. I am not on anybody’s side as I want the rightful land owner to get their rights and for the families to relocate peacefully.

“The Selangor state government will assist them in the process of getting Rumah SelangorKu through the Selangor Housing and Property Board.

"However, they must realise that the number of houses are limited, the location may not be to their liking and they will have to wait too,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ee said the ball is on the villagers’ court to honour the tenancy agreement.

“I am giving a deadline to the 34 families to sign the tenancy agreement and have the documents handed over by noon tomorrow. We want this issue to be resolved and want the understanding which has been agreed upon in the meeting, to be put in black and white.

“If this is not settled... We will proceed with the demolition on Thursday as per the court order,” said Ee.

He added the deadline had been conveyed to the lawyers representing the 34 families.

Ee also said the terms and conditions of the tenancy agreement was confidential and would not be revealed to the media.
