Sabah to boost healthcare services

SANDAKAN: The state government will focus on strengthening healthcare services, and prioritise improving medical equipment and technology capabilities at hospitals.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said it was time to ensure that people in rural areas and isolated villages received the best healthcare.

He said the state Health and People’s Wellbeing Ministry must work with the Federal Government to ensure that more facilities were provided at the state’s hospitals.

“As we know, the medical sector in the peninsula is far more advanced than the state.

“It’s time for us to focus on areas that are in need and I’m confident this can be achieved with cooperation between the federal and state governments.

“We will discuss with the Health Ministry to upgrade the medical system in Sabah so that priority is given (to the state),” he said after launching the new building of Duchess of Kent Hospital’s Radiology Department, here, today. The RM7.6 million radiology building provides ultrasound, CT Scan, mammogram and fluoroscopy medical services.

State Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Stephen Wong Tien Fatt said it had received 971 patients for ultrasound services, 432 visitors for CT Scan, 11 patients for mammogram and 15 people for fluoroscopy services since it began operations on Aug 7.

“It has enabled patients to enjoy higher quality medical and health services.”
