10 UTM students receive Future Force Scholarship Award

GELANG PATAH: A total of 10 Universiti Teknologi Malaysia undergraduates became the first group of students to receive the prestigious Forest City-UTM Future Force Scholarship Award yesterday.

The scholarships, worth RM370,000 in total, were provided by Country Garden Pacificview (CGPV) Sdn Bhd as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts to enhance educational opportunities for Malaysians.

Country Garden Malaysia and Forest City Director of Strategy Ng Zhu Hann said a three-year collaboration agreement was signed between UTM and CGPV.

"It was in line with Forest City’s three-prong localisation strategy, in which this education initiative will help both enhance local human capital and talent development whilst ensuring to benefit local Malaysians as a whole," Ng said in his speech before the presentation of the mock cheque to UTM at the Forest City sales gallery here yesterday.

"It is the vision of the company to create value with our existence and we want to give priority to local graduates especially the students from the B40 segment in our recruitment efforts,” he added.

The recipients of the Forest City-UTM Future Force Scholarship Award are Anisya Anis Sariff and Nazita Yunos, both from the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities;and Zachary Chong Jen Lum, Carey Tai Khay Shuen and Syuib Hassan,all from the Faculty of Built Environment & Surveying.

The other recipients are from the Faculty of Engineering - Yap Yi Jian, Mohamad Fikri Hazim bin Mohd Johari, Ooi Ao Song, Ahmad Azizi Ahmad Razi and Chin Quan Hau.

Meanwhile, UTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Wahid Omar in his speech said the selected students will receive more benefits from this program such as scholarship support, and internship opportunities upon the completion of their studies.

“UTM will give opportunities to our bright students to garner experience from CGPV and hone their skills. Hopefully, UTM students will be able to deliver the best achievements throughout their CGPV scholarships,” Wahid said.

“It is hoped that CGPV can sponsor more UTM students in the future especially B40 students and that the scholarship is open for more UTM students regardless of their field of study. This is to maintain a continuous cooperation between UTM and CGPV,” he added.

Also present were CGPV Human Resources director She Zhen Wei and UTM’s deputy vice-chancellor (student affairs) Prof Dr Durrishah Idrus.

Ng said the Forest City-UTM Future Force Scholarship Award aims to empower and groom budding talents to eventually contribute to the Malaysian economy and society.

“Forest City will continue to localise and create more job opportunities for Malaysians. We believe our Malaysian local graduates have what it takes to rise to the occasion.

"They only require financial assistance and opportunity by corporates like us to unleash their potential. We are here to do just that. For our future plan, we would also like to focus on uplifting and contributing towards Malaysia’s Technical & Vocational Education and Training (TVET) agenda with our established track record with Country Garden Polytechnic," said Ng.
