KUALA LUMPUR: Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has axed a RM7 million project to replace the windows on the top three floors of his ministry building in Putrajaya with bulletproof glass.
Lim said the project was approved by the previous Barisan Nasional government, and that it illustrated the extravagance of the former administration.
"There are easier ways to kill me than using a sniper.
"(This sum of) RM7 million for bulletproof glass, this is how they wasted money," he told online news portal Malaysiakini in an interview.
Malaysiakini reported that the 10th floor of the Finance Ministry building contained the offices of the deputy treasury secretaries-general and the 11th floor the offices of finance ministers and deputy ministers.
The 12th floor was reserved for meeting rooms.
Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had served as first finance minister and the second finance minister was Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
They were assisted by deputy ministers Datuk Othman Aziz and Datuk Lee Chee Leong.
