Five passengers injured in train collision at Tanjung Malim

TANJUNG MALIM: Five passengers were slightly injured in a collision between two trains at the Tanjung Malim railway station today, according to KTM Berhad.

The accident, which involved a commuter train and a cargo train, took place at 6.02 am at Platform 2 of the station, it said in a statement.

The cargo train with 30 wagons was heading from the Jalan Kastam station to the Ipoh Cargo Terminal while the commuter train was scheduled to depart the Tanjung Malim station at 6.05 am for the Port Klang station, it said.

The five injured passengers were sent to the Tanjung Malim health sub-clinic, it said, adding that they were among the 20 passengers in the commuter train.

“The 15 other passengers were transferred to another commuter train to continue their journey to the KL Sentral station,” it said.

KTM Berhad said the accident had forced the closure of one of the two tracks between Tanjung Malim and Kuala Kubu Bharu, and all trains will have to use only one track between the stretch.

As a result, it said, the Electric Train Service north of Kuala Lumpur will experience a delay of between 10 and 15 minutes.

“The commuter train service is expected to face a delay of between 20 and 30 minutes on the stretch between Tanjung Malim and Kepong,” it added.

KTM Berhad apologised for the inconvenience and said repairs were ongoing.
