Amidst Zahid turmoil, Umno leader tells members to stay course

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno members have been advised not to be swayed by legal developments involving party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who was charged with graft-related offences today.

Its information chief Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said Umno members should rally behind the party to defend its leaders.

“The party president and its leadership are facing a (tough) challenge. Only our unity can (help us) face this adversity.

“Let us rally and defend Umno and its leadership. Do not be trapped by the games played by those who are always out there to destroy Umno.

“Their objective is to only weaken Umno. When we are weak, there will be disunity,” Anuar said in a statement today.

Zahid claimed trial this morning to 45 charges of criminal breach of trust, money laundering and abuse of power involving over RM114 million.

Some of the charges were related to funds belonging to the Yayasan Akal Budi foundation, while others involve allegations that Zahid received kickbacks to help certain companies obtain contracts.
