KUALA TERENGGANU: Allegedly feeling pressured because her former fiancée refused to be responsible upon finding out she was pregnant with their child, a woman went through what reads like a movie plot in a bid to get rid of her baby.
With her pregnancy in its 20th week, the woman from Kuala Nerus, here, started out by purchasing 10 abortion pills worth RM600 via Facebook.
Last Friday at 1am, the 22-year-old woman consumed two of the pills and stuffed the remaining eight into her vagina. She also took to drinking carbonated water.
According to police, she was believed to have done all that due to pressure and that she and her fiancée had broken off their engagement in June.
Deputy Kuala Terengganu district police chief Supt Suffian Sulaiman said the woman was alone in her rented house when she started having stomach ache about an hour after consuming the medication.
He informed that the woman then gave birth to a stillborn boy that weighed 304 grammes at 11pm the same day.
She then cleaned the baby's remains and wrapped it in a towel.
"The suspect then decided to go to a nearby private clinic at 12pm (the next day) to inform of her abortion. A clinic staff then gave her the contact number of an individual for burial arrangement purposes.
"However, the staff asked the suspect to report the death to the police first before arranging for burial. This was when the suspect made her way to the Gong Badak police station to lodge a report on the incident.
"The suspect brought along the remains of the baby which she had placed in her motorcycle's carrier basket," Suffian said.
He informed that the suspect who was in a weakened state by then was taken to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu for further treatment.
The case was being investigated under Section 315 of the Penal Code for intentionally preventing a child from being born alive or to cause it to die after birth.
"For this offence, the suspect faces a jail term of up to 10 years or fine or both, upon conviction," he said.
