Najib maintains RM2.6 billion was from Saudi govt

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak has maintained his claim that the RM2.6 billion which was deposited into his personal bank accounts had been a donation from the Saudi Arabian government.

The former prime minister said he had proof from the bank that showed that the funds were from the kingdom’s Finance Ministry and a son of the Saudi king.

“Even though the Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Ahmad Al-Jubeir twice confirmed that the money was from Saudi Arabia, our Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah claimed today that (Al-Jubeir) told him that the RM2.6 billion had nothing to do with the Saudi Arabian government,” he said in a Facebook post.

With the post, Najib attached several pictures, saying these were the same pictures he had posted last month.

The pictures were allegedly of bank documents and letters which proved that the money came from the Saudi Arabian government.

“This is my post from last month in which I proved that the letters were from the same donor. I also showed proof by way of bank documents that the majority of the funds came directly from the Saudi Arabian Finance Ministry and from a prince of Saudi Arabia.

“Almost all of this RM2.6 billion was returned to the source from which it came four months after it was received. I have been charged (in court) for receiving the funds and also charged for returning the funds,” he said.

Najib uploaded the Facebook post after Saifuddin had, in a press conference, said Al-Jubeir had told him during a visit earlier today that the funds did not have anything to do with the Saudi government.
