RM150m to stabilise supply, standardise prices of goods

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has allocated RM150 million to stabilise the supply of goods and standardise their prices, especially in Sabah and Sarawak, said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.

He said the goods included wheat flour, refined sugar and cooking oil in the 1 kg pack.

“They also include local rice with 15 per cent broken rice in the 10 kg bag; RON95 petrol, diesel and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG),” he said when tabling Budget 2019 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Lim said the government will also encourage consumers to be involved in monitoring the prices of goods and reduce the service of the price-monitoring officers.

He advised consumers to download the ‘Price Catcher’ application as a platform to monitor prices through data sharing.

Lim said the application will not only benefit all consumers to know the best prices in the market but also help the authorities —to monitor unlawful pricing practices.

“The government will also allocate RM20 million towards more effective enforcement,” he said. --Bernama
