RM1billion National Fibre Connectivity Plan to be launched next year

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will launch the National Fibre Connectivity Plan next year with an allocation of RM1 billion, says Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.

During the tabling of Budget 2019 at the Dewan Rakyat this afternoon, he said it was part of efforts to support the growth of the country’s digital economy.

“The plan will develop our broadband infrastructure to ensure more efficient spectrum allocation to achieve the targeted 30 Mbps speed in rural and remote areas within five years, as part of the overall plan to achieve world class infrastructure at affordable prices.

“The government has also enforced the Mandatory Standards for Access Pricing, which will result in fixed broadband prices to be reduced by at least 25 per cent by the end of the year,” he said.
