Voluntary disclosure programme open from Nov 3 to June 30 next year: IRB

KUALA LUMPUR: Inland Revenue Board (IRB) said the Special Voluntary Disclosure Programme, to allow taxpayers to voluntarily disclose any supplementary income which has not been declared for tax purposes, is open from Nov 3 to June 30 next year.

Its chief executive officer Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah, in a statement, said the programme was a part of government’s tax reform initiative to encourage taxpayers to voluntarily declare their income.

“This programme is offered to all categories of taxpayers where the rate of penalty will be reduced according to the voluntary disclosure and tax payment period.

“Through this offer, the taxpayer will be subjected to a lower penalty rate of between 10% and 15% of the tax payable compared to the penalty rate of between 80% and 300% after the voluntary disclosure period expires,” he said.

He said the Operational Guidelines 1 of 2018 entitled Special Programme for Voluntary Disclosure and a set of frequently asked questions will be available on IRB website for reference.
