Education Ministry gets in high gear to utilise its 2019 Budget allocation

PUTRAJAYA: The Education Ministry will form a steering committee to fine tune all the things that have been listed in the 2019 Budget, said its minister Dr Maszlee Malik.

Headed by the ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Dr Mohd Gazali Abas, the minister said the committee would report to him on the updates and execution on regular basis.

He added there were 12 primary initiatives which it would embark on, and several other initiatives that would be done with the cooperation from other ministries and agencies, at federal and state levels, including the Inland Revenue Board.

“After the post-Cabinet meeting held last night (Friday night), I have instructed to the ministry’s top management to begin taking strategic steps to implement all of these initiative effectively.

“The ministry will also issue statements on detailed execution of every initiative, especially on the education aid worth RM2.9 billion from time to time,” said Maszlee in a statement today.

The education aid for the poor will focus on three core aid namely food, textbooks and cash.

Maszlee also listed another significant allocation, which involved RM652 million to upgrade and maintain all schools.

It was reported that the Education Ministry received the lion’s share of the 2019 budget with an allocation of RM60.2 billion.

Other initiatives under the ministry for the 2019 budget include RM100 million to rebuild dilapidated schools nationwide; RM70 million for a new programme called the Malaysia Future Leasership School (MFLS) for youths aged between 15 and 30 to instill moral values and patriotism; and, RM17.5 million for the period of five years to Malaysia Professional Accountancy Centre to churn out 600 qualified Bumiputera accountants as the nation strives to generate 3,000 registered Bumiputera accountants in the future.

Maszlee vowed that the ministry would execute all initiatives based on the principles of being transparent and accountability.
