MACC to take action against Isa Samad

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is expected to take action against former chairman of Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) Tan Sri Isa Samad soon, over the purchase of a hotel in Kuching, Sarawak, in 2014.

It is learned that an investigation paper is currently being completed by the anti-graft agency over Merdeka Palace Hotel purchase which was reported to have exceeded the market value at the time of purchase.

Sources said the investigation had been carried out by the MACC and would soon be handed over to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) for next action.

“Evidences are previously insufficient due to limited access, but now investigations have resumed following the discovery of new evidence.

“MACC will submit the complete investigation papers to the AGC next week for further instructions,” the source said.

Meanwhile, another source said MACC was also looking at other charges against Isa under Section 23 of the MACC Act on alleged abuse of power.

He said Attorney-General Tommy Thomas had also been briefed on the investigation and subsequent investigations into the case few days ago.

Istana Merdeka is a five-star hotel with 213 rooms, bought by Felda Investment Corporation for RM160 million when it was supposedly worth RM110 million.

Isa, who was also former Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar and Umno vice president, had led Felda since 2011.
