MUKAH: Rescuers have recovered the body of a teenager, who went missing while taking a dip at Sungai Oya in Dalat near here on Saturday.
The body of Rabani Abdul Razak, 14, from Kampung Terus, Oya was found at 8.30am this morning.
Dalat district police chief Deputy Superintendent Roslan Leman said the body of the victim was about two kilometres from the spot he was last seen.
“The body of the victim has been taken to the Dalat Hospital here for post-mortem before being claimed by his family members,” he said when contacted today.
It was reported that Rabani together with three of his relatives went out for swimming at the river in the 5.15pm incident.
The victim was swept away by the strong current when he tried to swim towards the middle of the river.
His relatives alerted nearby villagers, who in-turn, notified the Fire and Rescue Department.
In the wake of the event, Roslan urged parents to advise their children to stay away from rivers especially during unconditional weathers.
“We hope parents will stay alert and check on their children’s whereabouts to avoid recurrence,” he said
