Cruel to mail python through Poslaju, says Pos Malaysia

BUTTERWORTH: Pos Malaysia Bhd has slammed an irresponsible individual’s act of sending a live python in a package through Poslaju, recently, as “cruel”.

A spokesman said it had put the safety of Pos Malaysia personnel at risk and potentially affected its operations.

“We would like to stress that the act of sending animals, including insects, eggs, larva, birds and tusks are strictly prohibited,” said the spokesman, who added that senders could be taken to court.

“As a reminder to our customers, we will reject or confiscate the packages.”

The spokesman advised the public to enquire at a post office or Pos Laju branch to find out whether an item could be sent or not.

Photos of the Poslaju package, which contained the snake, have gone viral. Labelled ‘shoe box’, it was addressed to a hostel block at Universiti Sains Malaysia.

Pos Malaysia personnel opened the parcel after noticing movement.

The parcel had arrived at Bayan Lepas, here, before it was sent back to Sungai Buluh, Selangor.
