4,525 teacher transfer applications approved

PUTRAJAYA: The Education Ministry has approved 4,525 transfer requests from teachers for the January 2019 session.

Education director-general Datuk Dr Amin Senin said 25,332 teachers had applied for transfer between Feb 18 and March 25 when transfer application via the e-GTukar Module system was open.

“Between June and September, we approved 2,252 or 8.89 per cent of the transfer applications (which have been implemented this year),” he said today.

“The rest involve the remaining 23,080 applications and an additional 94 transfer applications due to chronic illnesses, security threat and following spouses who have been transferred because of work.

“Applications from 4,525 teachers or 19.53 per cent have been approved for the January 2019 school session.”

Amin said the highest number of approvals was given to requests to follow spouses who had been transferred because of work (1,756 or 38.81 per cent), followed by long service tenure in a state (1,030 or 22.76 per cent).

The others that were approved included joint applications (663 or 14.65 per cent), chronic illnesses (222 or 4.91 per cent) and security threat (40 or 0.88 per cent).

Amin said three key factors taken into consideration when processing requests to transfer between states were vacancies, service priority and optional need.

He said the final decision was made by the ministry’s teacher transfer committee.

He said priority was given to students’ welfare and their learning needs.

Amin urged teachers whose applications had been rejected to continue with their good work to educate young Malaysians.
