Man wins Proton Persona in contest after spending less than RM200 in Mydin Hypermarket

KOTA BARU: A 57-year-old self-employed man became the winner of the grand prize of a contest here today when he won a Proton Persona.

What really surprised him was he had spent less than RM200 shopping at Mydin Hypermarket in Kubang Kerian here recently.

He won the prize after he joined the `Buy and Win’ contest organised by Mydin Hypermarket in conjunction with its 8th anniversary celebrations.

“I am still in shock and cannot believe I won the car. I never expected to win anything when I joined the contest.

“I just filled the forms twice, after spending between RM80 and RM10 (on two separate shopping trips),” he said in tears when met after receiving a mock key for the car here today.

The father of four said Mydin Hypermarket was a favourite place for shopping over the years for his family as it was close to their home.

“Besides that, we like to shop here because the goods, especially essential items, are much cheaper compared to other shops,” he said.

Raduan received the mock key from Mydin East Coast Region area manager R. Naidu in a simple ceremony held at the mall here today.

Winners of the second, third and fourth prizes received a motorcycle each.

Meanwhile, Naidu said the contest was held in conjunction with Mydin’s 8th anniversary.

He said they received more than 200,000 applications for the contest which started few months ago.

The contest was open to customers who spent RM50 or more and they needed to answer a simple question to enable them to win the prizes.
