White Paper on Felda's RM8 billion debt to be tabled in Parliament

SHAH ALAM: The White Paper on Felda will be tabled in Parliament in December, said Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, made the revelation during his wrapping-up speech at the 13th PKR Congress here this afternoon.

He said that this move was necessary as the plight of Felda settlers was the government’s top priority in order to safeguard their well-being and ensure they were not blighted by high cost of living.

“There are (PKR) delegates who touched (during debates in the Congress) on the problems faced by Felda settlers.

“Due to the wrongful management of Felda having gone too far, which led to over RM8 billion in debt (saddled by Felda), I have no other choice.

“I am happy to announce that the White Paper on the wrongful and irresponsible management of Felda will be tabled in December,” Azmin said.

It was previously reported in October that the White Paper would be tabled in the current Dewan Rakyat sitting to provide details on how the government planned to turn the troubled plantation giant’s fortunes around.

During a Dewan Rakyat sitting, Azmin was reported to have said that the government has identified the necessary measures which needed to be taken to manage Felda’s cash flow and debt problem.

He had said the turnaround plan would also include details on how the government would reduce the RM8 billion debt that Felda had chalked up until June 2018.
