PUTRAJAYA: A source from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) told NSTP that former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was summoned to the graftbusters’ headquarters, here, today for questioning with regard to the purchase of the Scorpene submarines by the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) government.
This effectively means that the MACC is reopening its investigation into the purchase of the submarines worth RM4.67 billion which had previously courted controversy.
The Pekan MP spent four hours at the headquarters after arriving at 9.23am today.
The vehicle ferrying him was seen leaving the premises at 1.15pm.
The source said several other individuals are expected to be called in to assist in investigation including political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda who was allegedly involved in the Scorpene's transaction process.
Two French submarines were purchased in 2002 when Najib was defence minister.
He was said to have overseen the purchase, which included an Agosta submarine for training purposes from France's Direction des Constructions Navales (DCN) worth close to £1 billion (US$1.17 bilion).
Previously, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said he was informed by France's ambassador to Malaysia, Frederic Laplanche that the French judiciary would be pursuing the Scorpene corruption scandal.
