Waytha calls for calm in wake of Seafield temple riot [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department P. Waytha Moorthy has called for calm in the wake of a violent riot that took place outside the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya early this morning.

In a statement issued by the minister's office, it said that the minister requests for all Malaysians to stay calm until full investigation is conducted on the incident.

He also assured that the rule of law would prevail.

"It has come to the attention of the Minister that some people were hurt and properties within the temple premises torched, which has led to emotional tension amongst the community. There are also various unverified accusations being viralled.

"The Deputy Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has promised a thorough investigation would be conducted," the statement said, informing that Waytha Moorthy had been in touch with Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim on the matter.

In the incident this morning, 18 vehicles were torched and two men in their 30s sustained injuries.

Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor stressed that what happened had no racial elements, and that the incident was a misunderstanding between two groups.

He said thorough investigation is being carried out.
