SEREMBAN: A man’s quick-thinking saved not only his life, but also the consignment of bread his lorry was carrying from going up in flames.

The 37-year-old lorry driver was on his way from Rasah to a supermarket in Seremban 2 to deliver a shipment of bread loaves just before 6am when he noticed smoke coming out of the lorry’s engine bay.

He immediately pulled over at the Bukit Chedang roundabout.

Seremban 2 Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Md Munawir Md Yusoff said they deployed a fire engine with six personnel to the scene upon being alerted to the incident.

Firemen took 19 minutes to put out the fire.

“The lorry’s cabin was completely destroyed. However, its bread cargo in the rear was saved,” he said.

The department is still investigating the cause of the fire.
