Dr Wan Azizah says injured fireman can't have too many visitors

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of visitors visiting injured fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim needs to be monitored.

This is due to his condition now which is susceptible to infections.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the safety of the fireman could not be compromised.

"We cannot have too many visitors, as they are all carrier’s of germs. He (Adib) cannot fight (infections) at this moment.

"Adib must be well taken care as he is completely exposed (to infections). I was a doctor previously and was also exposed to infections," she said.

"Please pray, at least with our prayers, he is getting better, " she said in a press conference at the National Heart Institute (IJN), here today.

Earlier, she spent some 30 minutes to visit Adib who was injured in the riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ 25, Subang on Tuesday.

On Adib's condition, Dr Wan Azizah said he is closely monitored by doctors, despite being in a stable condition.

"His lungs is still damaged, eventhough his heart has shown positive improvement but he is attached to a life support machine.

"His kidney is also worrisome and has lost a lot of blood," she said.

On Tuesday, Adib and fellow firemen from the Subang Jaya Emergency Response System (EMRS) unit were deployed to douse a car which had been torched by rioters.

But upon arrival at the temple, he was dragged out of his EMRS van and beaten by an angry mob.

Adib was later rescued by passersby who rushed him to the Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) for treatment.

He was later transferred to the IJN to facilitate further treatment.
