PTPTN on anti ICERD rally stage

KUALA LUMPUR: The rally held at Dataran Merdeka today is to oppose Malaysia acceding to the International Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD).

However this has not stopped an Umno Youth exco member from bringing up a different topic that has received much attention these past few days.

Muhammad Farhan Khairuddin said university students would not budge from pushing the government to fulfill the pledges made in their 14th General Election (GE14) manifesto, specifically on the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN).

He said the youths in this country, especially university and college students would not forget the promise made by Pakatan Harapan (PH) which contributed to them taking over Putrajaya.

"We know among the winning factor for PH was the promises made to the youth. We will continue to carry their voice until our rights are honoured.

"Many other decisions and actions taken by the government that sidelines the fate of the Malays and this will affect the future generation," he said in his speech at the rally.

The rally started at about 2pm but saw participants gathering much earlier at several locations around the city centre before marching to Dataran Merdeka.

Among those in attendance are PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak as well as celebrities Hattan and Azwan Ali.
