Temple riot: Four suspects released from remand [NSTTV]

PETALING JAYA: Four men who were allegedly involved in an incident which saw a fireman brutally assaulted in a riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya, have been released on bail.

Magistrate Nurshahirah Abd Salim allowed two of the suspects to be released on a RM2,000 court bond while the rest were freed on police bail.

The men, aged between 21 and 24, were previously remanded for four days to assist an investigation under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.

The suspects were represented by lawyer Sri Threren.

In the Nov 27 incident, the fireman, Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, was left critically injured after being assaulted by a mob while he and his team were attempting to put out a vehicle fire in front of the temple.

The incident left Muhammad Adib severely injured. He was warded in the Ramsay Sime Darby Medical Centre and later transferred to the National Heart Institute.

He remains on life support.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Mohd Ikhwan Mohd Nasir issued a six-day remand order against a man to aid an investigation into the riot at the temple.

The man was detained to aid an investigation under Sections 435, 148, 427 and 447 of the Penal Code.

On Monday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Fuzi Harun had said there were no changes to the number of people arrested in connection with the case, which stood at 106 people.

He said seven out of the 66 people sought by police have since come forward to provide their statements.
