KUALA LUMPUR: Police will re-evaluate the safety level at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, USJ 25, Subang Jaya before making further action on police deployment there.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said a meeting would be held this evening to discuss further action to reduce the number of security personnel there.
"I will discuss with the Selangor police this evening about the latest safety level at the temple and the surrounding areas.
"At the moment, there is no threat to the level of security and if this continues, we may eventually reduce the number of personnel there as it involves costs.
"However we can not take this matter lightly and that’s why the police continue to monitor the area and the nearby shopping centre involved in the recent incident.
He said this to reporters after attending the Ronda Cegah Jenayah programme with Kuala Lumpur Police Training Center (PULAPOL) trainers at Central Market here, today.
Also present were Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety department director Datuk Seri Rosli Ab Rahman, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim and Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun.
Fuzi said the temple fracas had seen a total of 106 people being arrested so far.
Commenting on the rally on the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD), Fuzi said three individuals would be called to have their statements taken this evening.
"This is because we found that a violation of the law under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 (APA 2012) was committed, where some individuals had brought children along.
"We want to record the organiser's statement as they have promised not to violate APA 2012," he said.
It is learned that the organisers will have their statements recorded at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD) this evening.
