Authorities analyse CCTV footages at Jelapang shophouse razed in Tuesday fire

IPOH: Perak Fire and Rescue Department is analysing the closed circuit television (CCTV) footages at the premises of an event management business at the Jelapang Maju industrial area which was razed in a fire yesterday.

Its deputy director Sayani Saidon said the department personnel had seen the recording obtained from the premises and were in the process of identifying the cause of fire.

“We are still investigating the cause of incident. The substance that could have triggered the explosion, including fireworks, was not found during preliminary investigations carried out by among others the department’s forensics and canine unit.

“We have so far taken a few samples at the scene to be sent to our lab in Kuala Lumpur,” he said when contacted today.

He said the department would cover all possible angles in carrying out the investigation.

He said the site had been cordoned off to facilitate investigations by the department and police.

It was reported that the business owner P. Thigarajan, 40, his wife and five employees were in the shophouse during the 2pm incident. Only the wife made it out alive.

The case is being investigated under Section 304 of the Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
