Petition for Waytha Moorthy to be sacked collects close to 300k signatures

KUALA LUMPUR: A petition calling for Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P. Waytha Moorthy to resign has so far collected 292,160 signatures.

The petition, launched last month through change.org, was mobilised by the Gerakan Pengundi Sedar (GPS).

GPS in the petition said Waytha Moorthy had failed to control the rising tensions between races recently despite the mandate to do so.

The petition had said that he had tarnished Malaysia’s image by saying that Hindus in Malaysia were being discriminated and that Hindu temples were demolished without reason by the authorities in Malaysia

Waytha Moorthy, who is the leader of Barisan Bertindak Hak Asasi Hindu (HINDRAF), had insisted on the ratification of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD).

GPS had previously announced via Facebook that it aimed to reach 300,000 signatures through the petition.
