Kedah gets green light for 11 development projects

ALOR SETAR: The Federal government has approved an application by Kedah to carry out 11 development and infrastructure upgrade projects in the state, via an open tender process.

Kedah Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, said the 11 projects involve the construction of a multipurpose hall in Pokok Sena; the redevelopment of a hall and the Masjid Muadzam Shah in Kuala Nerang, Masjid Permatang Gedong in Kuala Muda, as well as a multipurpose hall in Taman Gurun Jaya, Gurun.

He said this also involved road works on a landslide area in Taman Selasih, Kulim; recovery and upgrading work on a mosque, surau and the construction of a mosque in Changlun and Masjid Kampung Tong Pelu, Pedu as well as the construction of a commercial complex in Sungai Petani.

“The approval for allocation also involves the Sungai Merbok ORS (off-river storage), building a water tower and pipe-replacement works in Merbok and Tanjung Dawaiserta, as well as repair works at Masjid Al-Fateh in Bandar Baharu.

“The allocations were approved by the Economic Affairs Ministry and Finance Ministry. This was relayed to me via a letter last week,” said Mukhriz in a statement.

Mukhriz said the projects approved by the Economic Affairs Ministry will utilise allocations from the Economic Planning Unit, channelled to the Prime Minister’s Department’s Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU).

He said all 11 projects will be carried out via open tender to ensure cost savings are in line with the current acquisition guidelines.

“On behalf of the state government and the people, I would like to express my appreciation to the Federal government, especially the Prime Minister’s Department, Economic Affairs Ministry, Finance Ministry, as well as the Water, Air and Natural Resources Ministry for approving the projects.

“I’m confident that these projects which will be implemented by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government will bring various benefits to the people and ensure Kedah’s continued prosperity,” he said.
