Disabled woman welcomes New Year baby

JOHOR BARU: Happiness was evident on the face of a young disabled woman who welcomed 2019 with the birth of her long-awaited first child.

Nur Farhana Ahmad Nadzramin, 20, who has a hearing and speech impediment, gave birth to a baby boy weighing 2.7kg at 8.13 am at Sultanah Aminah Hospital today.

She said she and her husband Muhammad Waqas Khan, 25, were married on March 11 and the birth of the boy was the greatest gift of her life.

“I am so happy with my little family,” she wrote on a piece of paper when journalists spoke to her.

Meanwhile, a couple from Senai welcomed the birth of their first child at KPJ Puteri Specialist Hospital.

Technician Wong Hek Onn, 28, said he and and his wife, Gan Ah Mey, a 28-year-old accounts executive, were grateful for the arrival of their baby boy at 9.18 am on the first day of the new year.

The couple, who work in Singapore, married two years ago.

Gan said the 3.86 kg baby was not due for another two weeks.

“I chose to deliver through Caesarean section. I came today for a check-up and was told that I could deliver the baby as it had reached 38 weeks.

“We are so happy and hope that the number one will bring luck for our son,” said Gan.
