UK's Jeremy Hunt to visit Malaysia tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom (UK), Jeremy Hunt will make a two-day official visit to Malaysia starting tomorrow.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry in a statement today said Hunt would be accompanied by his spouse and officials from the UK Foreign and the Commonwealth Office (FCO) on his maiden visit to Malaysia upon taking up the post on July 9, 2018.

The statement said during the official visit, Hunt is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah in Wisma Putra, Putrajaya.

"Both ministers are expected to discuss various issues of mutual interest including Asean, Brexit and regional issues," the statement said.

It said Hunt is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Putrajaya and to exchange views on regional and global issues of common concern.

He will also meet the Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo to discuss initiatives to strengthen and deepen the bilateral cooperation in the communication sector.

"The visit is expected to further strengthen the bond of friendship and reflect our long standing relations with the UK as well as to increase cooperation in new areas between the two countries," it said. --Bernama
