The setting-up of Universiti Johor is among the pledges made by Pakatan Harapan in its election manifesto for the 14th General Election.

The one-hour long meeting between delegation from the ministry and state government led by Menteri Besar, Datuk Osman Sapian, was held at the latter’s office in Kota Iskandar here.

“The meeting focuses on the matters pertaining to the principles and policies that would become the core foundation of Universiti Johor.

“The state government has started it works (over the development of the university).

“On behalf of the ministry, we will provide all the necessary supports to enable the state government to carry out this project,” he told reporters at a press conference held after the meeting.

In attendance was State Islamic Affairs and Education Committee chairman Aminolhuda Hassan.

Other matters discussed during the meeting, said the Simpang Renggam member of parliament, included the future of the education sector in the state.

“I hope the discussion will subsequently produce positive outcome not only for the education development in Johor but also for the entire country,” he said.

Aminolhuda said the state government recently completed the establishment of a committee comprising educational experts, which is the first phase of the development of the university.

“We are now moving towards the second phase of the project, which is to identify the location for the university, which would be jointly developed with the ministry.

“It is our hope for the university to be built near Kolej Yayasan Pelajaran Johor in Kota Tinggi,” he said.
