GEORGETOWN: Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu, via his lawyer, will send a notice of demand to Rembau member of parliament Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar soon.
The minister’s press secretary, Amin Shah Iskandar, said this is due to a defamatory statement made by Khairy, who claimed that Mohamad had used the Armed Forces assets while campaigning in the Cameron Highlands by-election.
Khairy, he said, made the statement in a press conference at the Sungai Ruil Orang Asli village in Brinchang.
“Online portal Malaysiakini, in its English report, carried an article titled “KJ: It’s clear, Harapan doesn’t practice what it preaches on gov’t asset use” and in Bahasa Melayu titled “PH cakap tak serupa bikin, guna jentera k’jaan – KJ.”
“Khairy continued to issue this defamatory statement despite the Defence Ministry having already clarified the matter in a statement on January 15,” he said in a media statement.
Last Tuesday, the Defence Ministry had issued a denial over viral photos which allegedly showed Mohamad using an official government vehicle to campaign in the Cameron Highlands by-election.
