Cat loving couple doesn't mind spending RM100 daily feeding strays

ALOR STAR: A couple here has been spending an average of RM100 daily feeding stray cats.

Rosli Ismail, 47, and his wife Mariam Roin, 47, who are fruit sellers in Kubang Rotan, Kuala Kedah, said they wake up early morning everyday to buy about three kilogrammes of fish and milk to feed the cats and kittens.

He said they also have about 30 kittens of their own in their house at Alor Janggus here.

“Once we get the fish and milk, we normally make our rounds along the Kubang Rotan and Seberang Kota areas to feed the cats,” he said.

Rosli said it had become a routine for him and his wife to do so after they took pity on stray cats about two years ago.

He said they later made a commitment to set aside a portion of their daily income to feed the cats.

“We have also adopted some of the cats, especially the sickly ones which we took home and nursed them to recovery,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mariam said she hoped to open a cat hotel one day to cater to feline lovers looking for boarding house for their pets.

Asked how feeding the cats had affected their finances, Mariam said she and her husband were thankful that their income had actually increased since they started doing so.

“I don’t care about all the money we have spent and continue to spend daily to feed the cats.

“We will continue doing it as long as we are able to do so,” she said.
