Don't use agents to pay your traffic summonses - Bukit Aman

KUCHING: Police have warned the public against using a third party or agent to settle their traffic summonses.

In a Bernama report today, Bukit Aman Traffic Investigations and Enforcement Department (TIED) director Datuk Azisman Alias said it was more secure for offenders to settle traffic summonses or compounds themselves rather than using agents.

This, he added, would enable them to ensure that the summonses had been cleared and their names removed from the police database.

“There have been cases where people use agents to pay summonses but later found out that their names are still in the system," he was quoted as saying after a dialogue session with Sarawak's TIED at Jalan Badruddin here today.

Also present was Sarawak TIED chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu.

Elaborating, Azisman said that several individuals involved have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) last year and charged in court.

Meanwhile, he said to date, police only managed to collect 40 per cent of the 5.5 million summonses issued nationwide despite the offer of 50 per cent discount at nearby police stations.
