CHUKAI: The Terengganu government has called on the Federal Government to form a special committee to resolve the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) issue.
Terengganu Menteri Besar, Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said a meeting and discussion should be held with state governments associated with the construction project.
According to him, the Federal government need to do a detailed study before deciding to cancel the project.
"The Terengganu government is very open and ready to engage in any discussion, especially in matters that benefit the state," he said after officiating the state level Tilawah Al-Quran at Dewan Berlian Majlis Perbandaran Kemaman, last night.
Ahmad Samsuri added the Federal government should also consider other aspects of the project, including construction work which had already started.
"We need to think about what to do with the infrastructure, including excavation works of railway tunnels, some of which are ready, while others are in the process of being completed.
"These also include location of stations which are being designed and the construction head office," he said.
According to him, the matters raised should be reconsidered by the Federal Government and a new decision should be made whether to call for an open tender in the form of Private Finance Initiative (PFI).
"We hope the matter will be reviewed to look at how the remaining work can be completed..
"We also hope a discussion will be held to resolve the matter amicably," he added.
