Three young brothers drown in Sabah fish pond

BELURAN: Three young brothers drowned while swimming in a fish pond at Kampung Bintang Mas near here, yesterday.

In the 2pm incident, the three boys, aged 6, 8 and 10, had gone with some friends to the pond, located about 200 meters from their house.

According to the victims' uncle, Muslimin Mohd Yahya, 32, the boys had never swum in the pond before.

"The pond had long been abandoned and was surrounded by shrubs. We are puzzled as to why they suddenly decided to swim there.

"Their parents did not know they went to the pond until one of their friends rushed home and told their father that the three siblings had drowned," he said when contacted today.

Muslimin added that the victims' father immediately rushed to the scene and found their bodies floating in the pond.

"They were taken out of the water and brought to the Telupid Health Clinic.

"However, all three were pronounced dead on arrival," he said.

Muslimin added that the tragedy has shocked the entire family.

"The remains of the three siblings have been laid to rest at the Bukit Pangiran cemetery in Sungai Sapi," he said.
