Body of man believed to have fallen off Penang ferry found (NSTTV)

GEORGE TOWN: Rescuers have found the body believed to be that of the man who fell off from a ferry three days ago.

Penang Maritime Enforcement Agency director Captain Hamizan Harun said the body was found near Swettenham Pier jetty at about 10.31am today.

However there were no identification documents found on him.

The body was clad in a black t-shirt and dark blue jeans. His face was bloated and almost unrecognisable.

“We could not ascertain his identity and the authorities also did not receive any report on a missing person to date,” he said in a statement today.

A 37-second video of a man trying to stay afloat went viral on social media creating panic that he had fallen off from from Pulau Undan ferry at about 9am on Friday.

However, Rapid Ferry had refuted such claims, following an internal investigation.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Fire and Rescue Department, Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre Langkawi and other agencies had worked together since the search and rescue operation was launched on Friday.
