Police to make twice-monthly visits to schools nationwide: Nie Ching [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: The police may soon be making twice-monthly visits to schools across the country, the Education Ministry said today.

Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching said the visits will be part of her ministry’s collaboration with the police under the “Jom Kembali ke Sekolah” programme.

She said the initiative would indirectly address disciplinary issues among students and reduce the school dropout rate.

“The police can attend school assemblies, as well as Parent-Teacher meetings; or even conduct meet-and-greet sessions with students and teachers.

“Police officers could also provide their input on what can be done to tackle disciplinary issues. Their presence in schools will also have a positive impact on efforts to reduce crime involving students,” she told reporters after attending the Jom Kembali ke Sekolah programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Putrajaya Presint 16(1) here, today.

Teo added that the programme, which was implemented three years ago, has borne fruit and prompted the ministry to extend its shelf life.

She said the ministry is also in the midst of installing a special “information board” for police to share important data with students and their parents.
