Public advised to limit outdoor activities during current heatwave

KANGAR: The Perlis Health Department has advised the public, especially those who are unwell and sensitive to heat, to avoid exposure to hot weather during the current heatwave to prevent heatstroke.

Its director Dr Sirajuddin Hashim said those working under the hot sun should wear thin clothing and hats or caps, as well as drink lots of water to prevent dehydration, and get more rest during breaks.

“Those suffering from lung infection, seizure, fever and asthma must take more care and limit their outdoor activities. They must seek immediate treatment if their condition worsens,” he told Bernama today.

Yesterday, farmer Alif Rezman Azhar, 21, was reported to have died of a seizure while tending to his rice field in Kampung Pida 2, Manggol Bonggor near Kodiang, Kedah at about 11.30am.

Meanwhile, Perlis Meteorological Department director Mohd Saharudi Saad said that the Chuping Meteorological Station recorded the highest reading of 36.8 degrees Celsius on Feb 8 and Feb 22, while the temperature yesterday was 36.2 degrees Celsius. -- Bernama
