Two boys drown during outing at river near Ipoh

IPOH: Two 13-year-old boys were found drowned at a river near Kampung Tersusun Batu 4, Tambun, near here, this morning.

The victims, who were part of a group of five friends who had gone swimming at the river, are believed to have been swept away by strong currents at about 8am, Bernama reported.

The body of the first victim was discovered by rescuers at 10.12am, while the second victim was found nearby, about 16 minutes later.

A spokesman for the Perak Fire and Rescue Department said that they received an emergency call that the boys were missing at 8.57am.

“The search was conducted by officers and personnel from the Ipoh Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by the Water Rescue Unit,” the spokesman said.

He added that the bodies were sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for post-mortems.
