Aussie man's simple gesture after NZ terror attack earns Twitter love

EXTREMISTS robbed 49 people off their lives at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand yesterday.

While some, like an Australian senator opted to issue insensitive remarks in the wake of the tragedy, many others around the world are coming together to spread messages of love and peace.

One such example is Lach Drummond, a communications specialist and researcher who resides in Australia.

Taking to his Twitter, Drummond said he stood with Muslims around the world.

"I live in country Australia and stand with #Muslims around the world. As I thought about #ChristchurchAttack I wanted to play the call to prayer at home at sunset. I’m not religious so hope that is not disrespectful. It is my gesture of solidarity," Drummond posted.

His tweet was accompanied by a 10-second video of the sun setting outside his home, with the Muslim azan played in the background.

It was a simple gesture but one that has garnered more than 16,000 likes with over 6,000 Retweets.

Following the reaction to his video, Drummond posted a thank you message.

"Thanks everyone, I’m overwhelmed by the shared love and positivity out there, despite the darkness. I hope it has helped in some small way. Peace, love and respect to all. #Christchurch," he said.

Drummond's video also caught the attention of an imam in Australia, Syed Wadood Janud who assured the former that nothing in the message was disrespectful.

"As a fellow Aussie and an Imam, let me assure you that no part of this is disrespectful. You gesture is thoughtful and highly appreciated. God Bless."

Many others on Twitter thanked Drummond for his video and kind words.
