Hot weather believed to have caused Rembau forest fire

REMBAU: A 4.9ha forest in Batu 1/2, Kampung Kundur Hulu, here, caught fire yesterday.

The fire is believed to have been caused by the hot and dry weather.

Operation commander Mohd Siraj Abdullah said 17 firemen from Rembau, Tampin and Seremban were rushed to the scene when the department received the emergency call at 7.03pm.

“We took immediate action to stop the fire from spreading to the settlements,” he said here today.

“We put it out around 11.30pm.”

Siraj said several explosions could be heard while the team was battling the fire.

He said there were no casualties.

Initial investigations, he said, revealed that the hot weather could have triggered the fire.
